ICS and Fairplace team up to tackle growing problem of redundancy

With unemployment having just hit the 2.5 million mark*, two of the UKs leading distance learning and career transition experts have teamed up to offer help to the growing number of people who are battling to get back into the workplace.

ICS and Fairplace have launched a Redundancy Toolkit which offers personal coaching and specialist careers advice for people hoping to re-launch their careers. The toolkit includes personal coaching from a Fairplace careers consultant, ebriefs and training tips from ICS, six months access to an online careers library which contains a huge range of job and recruiter databases.

Sally Pulvertaft, managing director of ICS, said: Even outgoing prime ministers understand the need to position yourself properly when youve just lost your job and want to get another one. While someone like Gordon Brown will have access to the very best careers advice, most businesses cant afford to pay for outplacement support when theyre laying off staff. So were giving people a different way to get the vital advice they need to set them back on the road to employment.

Chris Perkins, Scottish regional director at Fairplace, who gained his CIPD qualification through ICS, said: Losing your job is often a huge blow and deciding what to do next can be incredibly difficult without specialist help. We have a wealth of experience working with corporate clients but through this Redundancy Toolkit we can now get that advice directly to individuals and set them on the road to re-employment.

The Redundancy Toolkit entitled Relaunch Your Career - takes people through a comprehensive career transition process: taking stock, self assessment, planning career objectives, moving forward into the job market, preparing CVs, cover letters and application forms, interview skills and future career management.
ICS provides flexible learning to 40,000 students from its headquarters in Glasgow. It offers more than 100 educational, professional, vocational and leisure distance study courses. Fairplace is a leading UK career and talent management firm which guides people through all sorts of career transitions from handling redundancy, to redeployment, moving into self-employment and retirement.
