While the UK may only now be tentatively moving out of recession, high technology companies have weathered the storm better than most, according to leading recruitment consultancy ATA Selection.
Demand for specialists in electronics, included embedded software development, circuit design and research and development has remained high despite the turbulent economic times.
As politicians keep reminding us, the future competitiveness of the UKs economy will depend on us thinking more smartly and developing an innovative, high-technology sector of world-beating standards, said Andrew Hardaker, Managing Director of ATA Selection.
Certainly companies in this sector appear to be thriving and there are good opportunities for highly-skilled people in these fields. These have existed throughout the recession and are increasing now that the UKs economy is showing signs of recovery.
We have particularly noticed a rise in vacancies for electronics design engineers in smaller companies although larger companies are also looking for qualified electronics engineers.

One of the companies which ATA Selection has recently helped is Global Invacom, which ranks as one of the worlds largest manufacturers of satellite and cable peripherals. Based in Althorne, Essex, it has recently recruited a mix of electronics design, mechanical design and embedded system engineers.
In a different part of the high-technology spectrum, ATA Selection has placed several engineers with Qioptiq, a world-leading company which produces thermal weapon sights for the British Army as well as a range of sophisticated technology for civilian and military aircraft and satellites.
