UK businesses optimistic on jobs market outlook
With the latest employment figures showing unemployment on the increase, LinkedIn, the world's largest professional network, reveals UK businesses hold an optimistic outlook on the UK jobs market.
A survey of almost 1,500 UK professionals by LinkedIn reveals over half (52%) have stated that their company is hiring new staff in order to grow the business. An additional 14% are hiring to fill roles due to natural staff turnover pointing towards fluidity in the job market. However, the poll indicates a percentage of businesses are still unsure about the future with 16% not knowing when they will be able to start expanding again and 8% delaying hires until 2011.
Up to date poll results including a breakdown by job function and company size can be accessed on the LinkedIn site.
Kevin Eyres, Managing Director of LinkedIn Europe commented, Although the latest unemployment figures show that the jobless rate is still high, our poll illustrates the current optimism among professionals as companies are increasingly starting to look at hiring new staff as part of their growth strategies.
LinkedIn allow professionals to connect to their colleagues, industry experts and potentially next employer, and also let people take control of their online reputation by being the first results in online searches for the members name.
James Caan, CEO of Hamilton Bradshaw and star of Dragons' Den, comments "There's no doubt that it has been a tough time in the job market over the last 18 months. The positive news is that we're beginning to see an upturn in activity with more people moving and more opportunities opening up. While unemployment figures remain high, it's great to see indicators of UK businesses hiring to grow."
