Barker Ross Industrial Temp of the Year

Barker Ross Industrial Temp of the Year
When Barker Ross Industrial Temp of the Year Bob Shepherd retired from his job as a supervisor at Bardon Quarry two years ago he had not realised how much he would miss the day to day camaraderie of work.
So Bob who in his previous post had been responsible for placing temporary labour decided to become a temp himself and approached Leicester recruitment agency Barker Ross.
Within days of  applying to the agency, he secured a placement at  mirror manufacturer  Mawby and King in Upperton Road, Leicester   and at the age of 60 is about to  embark on a permanent job with the company.
Commenting on his change of career direction and his recent success in beating 650 nominees to the title of Industrial Temp of the Year, Bob said: Deciding to seek new employment after leaving Bardon Quarry wasnt about the money but about spending time with other people.
There are only so many jigsaws you can do in a week and I needed workmates around me again.
I like working for Mawby and King and am now training to be a crane operator. Its an interesting job and Im enjoying it but I didnt expect that going out to work would win me any awards.
Bob, who was originally interviewed for a placement as a glass processor, was given a different role when his new employers discovered how well qualified and experienced he was in driving.
He added: Ive driven everything from diggers and Bobcats to loaders and I have the certification and experience to work safely at heights, which I think also impressed the interviewer.
Julie King, Operations director at Mawby and King said Bob was an asset to the business.
She added: Bobs a skilled, committed and popular member of our workforce and were pleased to have been able to offer him a permanent position with the company.
Barker Ross section manager Ben Sutcliffe added: Weve known Bob for several years now, both as a client and as a temp and were all delighted for him. Hes likeable, reliable and hard working and deserves this title.
Bob, whose main hobby is riding powerful motorbikes, has won a days use of a Harley Davidson.
