Giving youngsters a sporting chance

Giving youngsters a sporting chanceNigel Wright Recruitment is delighted to become a business club supporter of Sainsburys UK School Games North East England 2010, which will take place in Newcastle, Gateshead and Sunderland from Thursday 2 to Sunday 5 September 2010. This four day multi-sport event was set up as a London 2012 legacy to provide elite young athletes with the experience of competing and performing at the highest level of competition, such as the Olympic and Paralympic Games. The Sainsburys UK School Games, now in their fifth year, will see more than 1,700 of the nations elite school-aged athletes compete across 10 sports. These will comprise: cycling, athletics, badminton, fencing, gymnastics, hockey, judo, swimming, table tennis and volleyball, with disability events in swimming, athletics and table tennis. The events will be hosted in some of the North East regions many great sporting venues, including Gateshead International Stadium, Northumbria Universitys new sports centre and Sunderland Aquatic Centre. Former competitors have gone on to compete at a senior level, including in the Olympic and Paralympic games, including 14-year-old Eleanor Simmonds, who became a swimming double gold medalist at the Beijing Paralympics.Ian Scott-Bell, Marketing and Business Development Manager at Nigel Wright Recruitment said: "We became a supporter of the Sainsburys UK School Games because we see a parallel between sporting achievement and business achievement.  These young athletes represent our next generation of global competitors and a tournament like this gives the participants a flavour of what it is like to be part of a high performance team and to compete on a bigger stage than at regional and club level.  It is widely accepted that sport is about dedication, striving to better oneself and achieving goals and these are all characteristics that are equally important and relevant in business life. It is no coincidence that so many successful sportspeople are also successful business leaders and vice versa.  With our group headquarters based in Newcastle this event also gives us the chance to show our appreciation of the region.
