Sprite welcomes The Government position

Sprite welcomes The Government  position on the treatment of travel and expenses and the National Minimum Wage.
The Governments response to the recent consultation document relating to how travel and subsistence expenses interact with the National Minimum Wage (NMW) has been welcomed by Jim Gregg, Director at Sprite Consultancy Limited. 
Commenting on the changes which are due to be implemented on 1st January 2011 Gregg said  The proposed legislation makes it absolutely clear that payments made by an employer to a worker for travel and subsistence will be added to the list of payments which are ignored when calculating a workers pay.  As a result, all employers will need to ensure that they pay their workers the NMW in addition to any payments for travel and subsistence.
The document issued by HM Government  will not result in any change to the operating practices of Sprite who have always adopted the soon to be mandatory approach,
 however, it will remove the uncertainty that exists in the market  and create a level playing field for recruiters and umbrella companies alike, added Gregg.
