BCL Legal Reports Strong Retention Rate of Regional NQ Lawyers
BCL Legal - one of the leading legal recruitment consultancies outside London - has reported that on average between 70% and 100% of newly qualified solicitors in the regions have been retained on either permanent or fixed term contracts after their training contracts expire this month. The news will be welcomed by thousands of legal professionals across the UK after a turbulent couple of years in the industry. BCL Legal - which has offices in Manchester, Leeds, Liverpool, Birmingham, Bristol and Reading - surveyed some of its biggest legal practice clients and the majority reported an increase or stabilisation in retention rates this year compared to 2009. Firms including Keoghs, DWF, Wrigleys and Godloves retained 100% of their trainee solicitors whilst high-profile names such as Cobbetts, Beachcroft and Shoosmiths ranged between 70% and 81%.Vicky Clark, director of BCL Legal, commented These figures are really encouraging and reflect a growing sense of confidence. Theres no doubt the market is still tough but many firms are now looking to develop certain areas through carefully managed business development strategies and NQs are an integral part of this'. Vicky continued 'NQs are the lifeblood of the legal word, and also the stars of tomorrow, so its great to report some good news. We hope the trend continues as there are some hugely talented junior lawyers out there who can add real value and help to make their employers stronger for the future.
