Stopgap Reach for the Peaks and raise 996.50 for The Duke of Edinburghs Award

Stopgap Reach for the Peaks and raise 996.50 for The Duke of Edinburghs Award

A team from leading marketing and HR recruitment specialists, the Stopgap Group, has completed The Duke of Edinburghs Award Reach for the Peaks Challenge and raised over 996.50 for the leading youth charity in the process.

Two weeks ago, the five Stopgap Stompers navigated their way across a 25-mile route over steep hills, moors and rough terrain whilst completing challenges along the way.

Carrying everything they required for 36 hours, the Stopgap Group employees camped out in dramatic weather conditions in a remote location of the Peak District. Groups had to use their wit and wisdom to solve team challenges one of which involved erecting a raft and rowing it successfully around a huge lake straight after they had completed an 8-mile trek.  The challenge tested the teams both mentally and physically and required a huge amount of team work.

Claire Owen, the Stopgap Groups Leader of Vision and Values said: The weekend was hard work but extremely enjoyable.  The group pulled together and embraced the challenges with focus and commitment and we were thrilled to be third overall.  We are delighted to have raised 996.50 for The Duke of Edinburghs Award, its such a worthwhile cause and it was great to see what young people are faced with as they work towards their Awards.

Rachel Roxburgh, Director of Fundraising, The Duke of Edinburghs Award, was extremely grateful to all the participants who took part in the challenge.  She said: It was a fantastic weekend and Id like to thank everyone from the Stopgap Group team who donned their walking boots and braved the elements to take part in this event. Its a tough challenge and they showed so much enthusiasm and gave over 100 percent which was commendable.  It was good to offer just a taste of what 275,000 young people go through each year to achieve their DofE Award.  Id also like to say a huge thank you for the teams amazing fundraising efforts, the event has raised over 996.50 to help the charity to continue to support these young people and give them a better start in life.

The Stopgap Group has long been a supporter of The Duke of Edinburghs Award and engages in regular fundraising activity for the charity.  In March this year, the company completed a 17-mile hike along the Thames, raising over 5,000 for a local branch of The Duke of Edinburghs Award.
