REC supports new call for temp cover during industrial action
REC supports new call for temp cover during industrial actionThe Confederation of British Industry (CBI) recently called on the Government to allow agency workers to be used to cover for striking workers.
The law currently prohibits this although it allows employers to hire temps directly. This is an anomaly and the REC welcomes the debate on how businesses can use temporary agency workers to continue providing services to end users.
Commenting on the CBI's call for changes in the law, Kevin Green, the REC's Chief Executive said:
"We anticipate an increase in industrial action in the public sector as the Government's austerity measures start to take effect. Allowing employers to continue to provide services to the public will be critical and will protect the most vulnerable in our society. We will continue to ensure our members adhere to the current regulations until they are changed."The CBI's proposed measures are outlined in a new report, Keeping the wheels turning: modernising the legal framework of industrial relations, which is published today.
