Extrastaff the only way is up...!
Further to high street driving and industrial specialist, Extrastaff, revealing a staggering uplift on sales of nearly 40% on the previous year CEO Tim Millward talks to David Head in a little more detail as to the reasons behind the companys success:
Sales are clearly flying for Extrastaff, the specialist high street and driving recruiter.  Interim results for the first half of 2010 have revealed a 39.5% increase in turnover on 2009 (5.52m vs 4.04m).  Thats no mean feat in the wake of economic turbulence, which has seen many of the companys competitors close branches and experience significant levels of redundancies.
Not so for Extrastaff!   As Tim Millward explains:
We literally did market our way through recession.  That meant investing in our staff and infra-structure during the down-turn and we held firm throughout.  We were financially strong at the outset and the result has been that we emerged even stronger at the end of it, having retained all our personnel and branches.  Were very proud of the result and the leading edge position it has now given us
Interestingly, business growth accelerated in the last six months of 2009 and whereas, historically, this growth would have slowed down after Christmas (as evidenced repeatedly across driving and industrial sectors), in 2010 the trend continued and shows no sign of let up as we head towards 2011.
As a result, we are adding two new branches bringing the entire network to 12 across the UK, with further openings planned for 2011.
Millward believes the high quality ethic, which is interwoven into the fabric of Extrastaffs business, meant that the company had a strong proposition, and carried it in good stead.  He attributes the companys success (which is ahead of national trends and jobs indicators) to the premium service his team delivers:
Service counts for everything when the going gets tough and weve always resisted the high volume / low margin placements that undermine service and erode value in the market.  Our board has been through 3 recessions and temp blue collar businesses tend to be the first in but also the first out.  We have a fantastic team throughout the branch network.  Its been bloody tough but the companys strength has improved as a result and clients appreciate our stability.
We havent had to change our culture or find ways to make sensational claims or bargain-basement offers our high quality ethos is fundamentally a part of the companys DNA.
Extrastaff has nearly 40 employees based out of 12 branches.  Founded in 2003, it has a growing reputation for delivering strong solutions across blue collar recruitment.  The companys ambition is to become the leading high street recruitment across driving and industrial in the UK.
