APSCo charity ball raises over 75,000 for ChildLine

The Association of Professional Staffing Companies (APSCo) raised over 75,000 at its 2010 charity ball for ChildLine. The ball was held on Friday 26th November at The Intercontinental in Hyde Park, London and sponsored by SmartWork.

This years sell-event saw over 625 guests from the professional staffing industry embracing the Kasbah theme, with guests greeted upon arrival by a host of belly dancers and Moroccan drummers. The main hall was decked out in typical Kasbah fashion, resembling a very welcoming Bedouin tent. A camel was on display to complete the ambience.

Esther Rantzen CBE, founder and President of ChildLine, was the guest of honour. She delivered a moving pre-dinner speech and was heavily involved throughout the evening.

Revellers partied the night away at a disco, casino and karaoke. Esther Rantzen socialised with guests late into the night and was on hand to pick the winner of the fabulous platinum and diamond Tiffany necklace at the champagne draw. The evening featured a silent auction before the Grand charity auction hosted by Christies.

Lots auctioned by Christies included an amazing seven-night safari in Zambia, three-night holiday in Morocco, a day for 30 people onboard a 75 foot yacht, an overnight stay for two in the Kensington Hotel, a day at Silverstone track-testing with a former Formula One driver, a weekend for up to four people in Boston, a five-day break in Las Vegas and tickets for seven to see the FA Community Shield at Wembley.

Ann Swain, Chief Executive of APSCo, comments: The ball was a huge success and raised significantly more for ChildLine than the previous year a useful barometer for the recovery of the professional staffing sector. It was wonderful to see everyone in attendance digging so deep for such a worthwhile cause.
