Minister visits REC to discuss AWR and other industry priorities

Employment Relations Minister Ed Davey visited the REC office last week to provide the latest update on AWR guidance and discuss other priorities for the UK recruitment industry. The Minister engaged directly with a number of REC members who provided a first hand insight into the current concerns of recruiters in the UK.

The Government has invited the REC to take part in a series of consultation workshops on the AWR guidance. This will ensure that the ongoing feedback from members will be reflected in the final document. Whilst welcoming the opportunity for input, the REC has also urged that the guidance be published as early as possible. This was taken on board by the Minister and the REC will be exploring ways of providing early insight to members on how specific areas within the Regulations are likely to be interpreted.

Discussions at the meeting focused on a number of other issues for the industry these included pre-pack administrations, travel dispensation schemes and pensions regulations. The Minister confirmed the Government's stance on not extending current licensing arrangements:  this debate has been kicked firmly into the long grass following the recent debate in the House of Commons. He asked for the views of REC members on the best possible enforcement regime for our industry.

Commenting on the outcome of last week's discussions, Kevin Green, the RECs Chief Executive says:

"We were delighted that the Minister accepted our invitation to visit the REC office and meet some of our members. The meeting was significant on both a symbolic and a practical level. There is a genuine desire to engage with the industry and we will continue to take the views and concerns of our members to the highest levels of Government.

Ed Davey MP is Employment Relations Minister within the Department for Business, Innovation and Skills (BIS). The REC is in ongoing dialogue with senior BIS officials on AWR implementation and enforcement issues.
