Mercury Search and Selection have set up a sister business in London

Mercury Search and Selection, the leading recruiters in the Print and Packaging sectors have set up a sister business in London to focus on the temporary market in the creative, graphics and print sectors. A key driver was that in the face of an apparent up turn companies are still nervous about taking on full time staff despite the need to increase capacity.

The business was soft launched from mercury Search and Selections offices in Chester during November but is now established in brand new offices on Cheapside, London, EC2V 6DN. Response from clients has been fantastic and we will soon be looking for more staff to meet demand.

Key facts

Recession lead to downsizing and at the very least head count freezes.

Since 3rd quarter of 2010 there has been greater confidence in the industry
Partly because of the media and talk of double dip etc there is still a degree of concern to counterbalance the optimism. Companies are nervous about taking on full time staff despite the need to increase capacity.

Added to this is there is a greater culture in London and the South East of using temps and freelancers as a matter of course.

Clients have been asking us to provide temporary workers for several years and we have not been in a position to professionally service this market essentially because you have to be close to the market.
We have seen particular demand from design and POS companies.

This has lead us to establish our London Office and sister business Mercury Resourcing Ltd in the heart of the City.

Over the last few years applicants have exceeded available vacancies and at Mercury we have a large number of Candidates for which there were no suitable permanent vacancies (5000). Many of these candidates have expressed an interest in working on temporary assignment so we have a ready made bank of candidates.

The roles we are primarily targeting are temps and contractors in the following functions:
Press Minders
Large and Small Format Digital Press Operators
Print Finishers Folder / Guillotine / Stitching / Carton Gluing
Mac / Repro Operators
2D & 3D Designers
Project Managers
Account exec.s

Unfortunately most clients have had to rely on generalist high street recruiters for temps. Too many recruiters dont know one end of a long perfector from the other or that CS4 has nothing to do with crime scene investigation. Mercury have a long heritage specialising in the print and packaging sectors, an understanding of candidate skills and client needs and aim to bring that specialist print knowledge to the temp market.
