REC in response to todays unfair dismissal case

Kevin Green, chief executive, Recruitment and Employment Confederation (REC), commented:

The REC is extremely disappointed with the Employment Tribunals verdict. This was one of 11 redundancies that the REC regrettably had to make in response to the recession. While the Employment Tribunal found that this was a legitimate redundancy and fair reason for dismissal, we are disappointed that they cited issues with the process given that the REC took and acted upon legal advice extensively during the course of the redundancy back in 2009.

We followed this advice to such an extent that we were indemnified against any loss, so this decision will not cost us or our members anything.

We are considering an appeal as we remain convinced the process used was fair and reasonable.
