UK Recruiters expand into Singapore following APSCo trade delegation

Trade delegations to Brazil to follow
Attended by 26 senior recruitment executives

UK recruiters are opening offices and winning new business in Singapore - one of the fastest growing economies in the world - following the largest ever recruitment trade delegation, led by the Association of Professional Staffing Companies (APSCo).

The trade delegation from May 24-27 2011 was organised in conjunction with UK Trade and Investment part of the Department of Business Innovation and Skills and sponsored by CXC Global, a leading provider of compliant contractor solutions worldwide.

The majority of UK recruitment companies travelling to Singapore as part of the APSCo delegation secured new business meetings with companies operating in the Far East as a result of the trip, with a significant number winning contracts to supply staff even before returning to the UK. Many APSCo Members attending the delegation are now planning to open offices in the region.

26 senior recruitment executives attended the four-day trade delegation to Singapore. This was APSCos second - and largest - trade delegation following the successful delegation to Abu Dhabi and Qatar in 2008. APSCo Members have already decided that Brazil will be the destination for the next trade delegation and APSCo are looking to confirm a November 2011 date.

Ann Swain, Chief Executive, APSCo comments: The delegation has proven a huge success with the vast majority of delegates having made strong business links from the trip and a number have already won new business and are opening offices - so the returns have been immediate.

Paul Farrer, Chairman of Aspire Global Network, one of the delegates, says: We will be opening an office in Singapore in the next month or so. If it wasnt for the trade delegation its unlikely we would be in a position to open in Singapore anywhere as quickly as we are. It really has accelerated our growth plans.

It has helped us forge business links which would have been very difficult and time consuming to build if we went out there on our own. It gave us a great insight into a wide range of considerations that probably saved us significant start-ups costs by helping us avoid making mistakes which we otherwise might have made.

Mike Latham, Director at Evolution, another delegate, says: The delegation was extremely well organised and provided hugely valuable business intelligence. We were seriously considering the idea of opening an office in the Asia-Pacific region, but this trade mission has moved us much closer to realising that goal. International expansion is a central plank of our growth strategy and thanks to APSCo- we expect to be conducting business in Singapore this year.
