IT workers shun Women’s Wimbledon Tennis Final for weekend job hunting
900% increase in web traffic during Wimbledon Ladies Final
IT workers shunned the Wimbledon ladies final in favour of weekend job hunting says ReThink Recruitment (ReThink), the business and technology staffing company.
ReThink says that IT job applications soared over 900% from their normal level for a Saturday during the final, when Petra Kvitkova, the lively left hander from Czechoslovakia, overcame the hot favourite Maria Sharapova.
ReThink received over 300 applications from IT job hunters during the match which lasted an hour and a half, versus an average of 30 applications that ReThink would receive on average during the same period on a Saturday.
Michael Bennett, Director at ReThink Recruitment, says: “IT is still very much a male dominated profession and the reason for this spike may be that they had time to kill as their spouses wanted to stay in and watch the match.”
Michael Bennett concludes: “We didn’t notice any such spike during the men’s final though!”
