Nick achieves a notable professional double

It was a double success for Nick Faulding Middleton when he became the top UK student in the Diploma in Recruitment Practice (DipRP) whilst he was setting up a new Leeds office for his employer, Head Resourcing.

Although Nick knew it would be a challenge to study for his Diploma whilst raising awareness of the Leeds office, he quickly realised the Diploma course had been tailored with busy recruiters in mind.

The Diploma is one of the industry-recognised qualifications offered by the Recruitment and Employment Confederation (REC), the professional body representing the UK’s private recruitment industry, for experienced recruiters who wish to develop their career. Nick’s overall grades were the highest across the four modules taken by Diploma students.

After university Nick began his career with an insurance company but quickly moved into recruitment when he realised his skills and ambitions were well matched to the vocation. He has now been with Head Resourcing for more than six years and progressed from being a consultant to managing the company’s new Leeds office which is now developing its client base across Yorkshire and the North of England.

Commenting on the Diploma, Nick said: “I found the time investment required in completing it was manageable and also the content was very useful in helping me set up our new office. While the law and ethics module of the course was definitely the most challenging, the deeper recruitment knowledge I have now gained will probably prove the most valuable.”

Looking ahead, Nick wants to establish Head Resourcing’s Leeds office as one of the most highly regarded IT and business change recruitment consultancies in Northern England and replicate the success already enjoyed by the organisation in Scotland.

He said: “I believe the recruitment world is changing and to continue in a competitive position, we have to be able to demonstrate that our clients gain higher levels of value by working with us.”

Nick will receive his Diploma award at the Institute of Recruitment Professionals’ (IRP) Awards in London next month where Head Resourcing has also been nominated for two awards.

Commenting on his top student placing, Judith Armatage, REC’s Director of Professional Development said: “This was a stunning achievement for Nick to attain work for his Diploma as well as undertaking such a huge business commitment. His experience shows how relevant the Diploma’s content can be in helping recruiters to achieve professional goals while they are studying.”

Last month, the new-look qualifications including the Diploma and Certificate in Recruitment Practice were launched by the Institute of Recruitment Professionals. Both are designed to equip recruitment professionals with the knowledge and skills they now need to meet the changing demands of clients and candidates.
