Stefan Willms appointed Managing Director & Head of Americas for Berkeley Frost

Having recently secured significant backing from HCR plc, boutique financial services search firm Berkeley Frost has further expanded its operations into the US markets with the appointment of Stefan Willms. Stefan, who previously built and ran Kinsey Allen’s New York operations, joins Berkeley Frost as Managing Director & Head of Americas.

Commenting on his move to Berkeley Frost, Stefan Willms said “This is a great opportunity to work again with trusted former colleagues and to build something really special and very different. Our specialist market knowledge and high-level use of business intelligence and research differentiates us in what is a highly competitive market”. Jonathan Robin, Founder & CEO of Berkeley Frost said “We are delighted to have Stefan join our team to lead and develop the US business. I and other members of the Berkeley Frost team have worked with Stefan before and I think it is great testament to our past successes that we have all chosen to partner again. Having market specialists such as Stefan differentiates us from the myriad of generalists operating within the financial markets who add little value to their clients”.

Commenting on the rationale behind the move into the New York market, Jonathan Robin added “Although markets are volatile it is very important that we continue to build our financial services business globally. Establishing ourselves in the US is crucial to our long term plans and, over the past 10 years, Stefan has built a reputation as being one of the leading head-hunters in the US fixed income market. As we become more established and markets stabilise we will begin to broaden our product coverage and align it with our UK business”.

Mike Brennan, Group Chief Executive Officer of parent company HCR plc, said “Stefan’s appointment and our move into New York underline our long-term commitment to building an international business. Our aim at Berkeley Frost is not necessarily to be the biggest but instead to be a centre of excellence and knowledge wherever we might be in the world. As the global human capital markets become more liquid and demand more geographically spread, clients expect us to be able to access talent and business intelligence wherever that may be”. About Berkeley Frost: Established in the UK in 2010, Berkeley Frost’s London operation now has 12 staff covering Investment Banking, Capital Markets and Structured Finance. Besides offering a highly specialist executive search service, the company also provides bespoke business intelligence services including market and competitor analysis, compensation benchmarking and diversity studies, thus helping clients make informed, long term strategic decisions.

About HCR plc: Having IPO’d in 2010, HCR has established itself as an innovative and creative operating investor in a range of recruitment and human capital related businesses. After acquiring a majority stake in Berkeley Frost in 2011, HCR worked with their management partners to help them achieve their ambitions for strategic growth. As experienced operating investors, HCR helped management increase the size of the business and its market coverage via strategic investment and selective hiring. Their confidence in management and their long term ambitions for the company were evidenced by HCR’s decision to back Berkeley Frost’s move into the USA.
