Supply chain and procurement consultant joins executive recruiter Archer Mathieson

James Gherardi has joined the supply chain and procurement practice of executive recruiter Archer Mathieson, as the firm continues to roll out its fast-paced growth strategy he is the seventh new senior recruit to join the Windsor and London-based company so far this year. Previously at RK Supply Chain, he has five years experience recruiting managers for permanent and interim roles, primarily in the pharmaceutical, FMCG and medical devices sectors.

Chief executive Richard Wright says:

“Career success in recruitment is a combination of who you know, sector knowledge and the right personal qualities. James stands out in all three areas. Having changed career tack from medicine he quickly re-established himself in recruitment, carving out a strong niche for himself in both retained search and interim management. So hiring James really strengthens our supply chain and procurement practice. An added bonus is that his international experience brings us new opportunities to exploit and fits with our strategy to increase Archer Mathieson’s European client base.”

While Gherardi says the market for interim managers is increasing, he believes the current market for permanent executive recruitment favours firms like Archer Mathieson to an even greater extent.

“Demand for search services is holding up well but today clients are much more prescriptive in adherence to required skills they expect a much closer fit. That plays well to companies like Archer Mathieson, which has a strong research function and a proven record of matching candidates to very specific roles,” he explains. Gherardi says he also expects to bring in more non-UK assignments to Archer Mathieson.

“In the international pharmaceutical sector, markets such as Switzerland and The Netherlands are more buoyant in terms of recruitment compared to the UK. It’s partly driven by companies relocating operations to more tax-efficient regimes. Another driver is that big firms in this sector recognise there is still huge scope for efficiency improvement in terms of supply chain, stock-holding and inventory management. People who have proven ability in these areas are in strong demand.”

Gherardi will divide his time between Archer Mathieson’s Windsor headquarters and the firm’s recently opened London office. He will also be able to take advantage of the groups office locations throughout Europe. Archer Mathieson is one of four recruitment companies that make up The Cornhill Partnership, a Barclays Ventures backed business. Its sister firms are London based Correlate Search, Euromedicaand BIE Interim Executive.
