CBI RESPONDS TO DAVID CAMERON’S SPEECH TO CONSERVATIVE PARTY CONFERENCE
The CBI today (Wednesday) commented on a speech by David Cameron, the Prime Minister, to the Conservative Party conference in Manchester.
Katja Hall, CBI Chief Policy Director, said:
“The Prime Minister is right that dealing with the deficit is helping to build solid foundations for UK growth, and we need to stick to & lsquo;plan A’.
“Small and medium-sized businesses are particularly important to the recovery, and it was good to hear him talk about ways to help these companies to grow and create jobs. Getting a job will matter more to a young person than getting a new employment right.
“The Prime Minister rightly identified that we need a skilled workforce. Over half of employers already offer apprenticeships, but more firms could get involved as and when the labour market allows.
“Reforming our sclerotic planning system is essential if we are to get the economy moving again. The Government’s new framework will give local communities a chance to decide whether or not they want to attract new jobs and opportunities to their area.”
