Mia Drennan, Founder and Managing Director of Square Mile Connections Ltd and Imatzo Executive Search, won the award for Working Mums Champion on 5th October 2011.  This award is in recognition for individuals who champion flexible working strategy in the workplace.

Since establishing the business in 2005 Mia has built up a strong business specialising in the finance, banking and legal industry with the help of a strong and continually growing team.  Several members of the team are working parents who would be precluded to work full-time in the office due to childcare arrangements, so the option of home-working and the ability to work flexibly is crucial to allowing them to continue working and choosing the Company as an employer of choice.

Drennan says “talent attraction is a key part of our strategic success for ourselves and our company, as a working parent myself I feel responsible for providing an environment which supports employees and provides options around working strategy.  Working smarter not harder is one of our goals to sustain as we continue to grow our business.”

The COO of the Company Tina Goodhart recently joined in 2011 and due to being a working parent with two children and a husband who works overseas she needed flexibility.  & lsquo;I was keen to stay in the recruitment industry but so many employers will not offer flexibility.  Mia has been a fantastic employer, she trusts me to get on with my role, we communicate continually and I feel that I want to work extra hours as we have one goal to work too. Mia does make it clear I do not have to put in the extra hours but due to the flexibility Mia has given me I feel that I want to work and have developed a great deal of loyalty and commitment in return.  I firmly believe that the market place is very different to how it has been in the past, there are more working parents, carers and individuals who want to work flexibly, if more employers took a leaf out of Mia’s book then there would be many companies reaping the rewards for a team of happy employees who want to go that extra mile’.
