Top firms under pressure to increase female board representation

Avinder Laroya, Partner at Serenity Law LLPsaid, “The UK is seeing a growing drive of female entrepreneurs and women stepping up to serve as Directors on company boards, according to research into the corporate governance landscape of the UK’s leading companies inFTSE 350 companies less than 9% of directorships were held by women, almost half of which were non-executives in the FTSE 100.

Recent research from the Law Society revealed in comparison to the number of female trainees entering the legal profession represents about 60% of lawyers in UK private practice. Yet, only 45% of solicitors with practising certificates are female and only 21% of partners are women.

Many women are attracted to the legal profession at trainee level, which is positive. However, retaining women to reach more senior roles can be a challenge, changes can be made with the review of diversity policies.”
