James Callander, MD of FreshMinds Talent, commecomments on the ONS unemployment figures
James Callander, managing director of FreshMinds Talent, the high end recruitment consultancy comments on the ONS unemployment figures:
“With gloomy unemployment figures released today, it is crucial to keep a positive attitude and not despair. We would advise people to try and get temporary work, even if it is not in their chosen industry as this will help you pay the bills and get you into a routine. Experience of working in any field will give you valuable business insights and a better chance of securing a permanent role. It is also important not to be defeatist, keep trying and eventually you will succeed.
When applying for jobs, do not send out hundreds of identical applications – you should tailor your applications to each individual company and role. If you do this then you are much more likely to get an interview and hopefully get a role. If you don’t hear back from the company you have applied to then why not give them a call and chase up your application. Ultimately there are plenty of opportunities out there in the job market – you just need to stand out. For the more adventurous, the idea of going solo and starting your own business is certainly an option.”
