The Association of Recruitment Consultancies (ARC) fully supports the CBI’s call for an early review of the AWR
The CBI has announced it is calling for an early review of the AWR, following a survey which revealed a negative impact on prospects for temporary workers.
The ARC welcomes the position of the CBI, which is entirely in line with its own.
The ARC has already made a number of representations to the government with proposals as to ways in which the impact of the AWR could be reduced. It has also carried out a survey of its members on the effects to date of the AWR and is collating the feedback to demonstrate the necessity for an urgent early review of the AWR.
The ARC’s survey results, released at the start of this month, indicated strongly that the AWR are not only having an adverse affect on businesses, but are actually undermining the job market for agency workers.
Adrian Marlowe, Chairman of the ARC, added “these discouraging results reflect only the lead up to the 12 week qualifying period, as well as the lead up to Christmas, traditionally a time when there is greater demand for temporary workers, particularly in the industrial sectors. The option is there for an early review and if indicators are correct, there can be no advantage in delay.”
