Winners of 2011 APSCo staffing industry awards announced

The winners of the APSCo Awards for Excellence were announced last week (November 3rd) at an exclusive reception sponsored by Barclays and giant group. The awards were hosted at the Barclays headquarters in Canary Wharf.

Entries for the APSCo Awards were judged by an independent panel of experts. The judging panel was chaired by Les Clarke, a former member of the APSCo executive committee and a well respected veteran of the recruitment industry, with over 30 years experience.

Judges for the Recruitment Company of the Year categories were: Philip McMullan, former Editor of Recruitment Consultant (now Global Recruiter) magazine, Katie Folwell-Davies, Partner at Deloitte, who heads up the firm’s recruitment sector team, and James Wellesley Wesley, Partner at Wyvern Partners, who leads Wyvern’s Human Capital Services practice.

Judges for Innovator and Recruitment Sector Provider of the Year awards were: Paul Saunders, former Director of Commercial Finance at Lloyds TSB, Martin Reed, Managing Director of Thomas International and Godfrey Morrell an IT recruitment expert with over 25 years experience and founder of Abraxas (Now Randstad IT).

Ann Swain, APSCo Chief Executive, says: “This year was particularly fiercely contested. With market conditions still challenging, and recruiters keen for any competitive edge, APSCo awards are more highly coveted than ever. All entrants should feel immensely proud of their hard work, in what has been yet another tough year.”

The winners were:

Recruitment Company of the Year, &pound100 million plus annual turnover

Winner: Fircroft – a leading specialist recruitment provider

The judges felt that this company was a stand-out winner. Their international growth is impressive, particularly for a family owned business, and has been achieved without loss of focus on service delivery and staff development.

The finalists: Resource Solutions Group, Volt, Fircroft

Recruitment Company of the Year, &pound21-&pound100 million annual turnover

Winner: Goodman Masson – the UK’s largest Independent Financial Recruiter

Goodman Masson demonstrated a real movement towards quality, people development and client focus. Their initiatives to increase candidate flow in order to meet client needs’ have paid off and making staff retention a strategic objective has, in the judges’ view, made this a very special business.

Recruitment Company of the Year, under &pound20 million annual turnover

Winner: Aspire Global Network – the media and creative industries recruitment provider

A mature and complex organisation, this company demonstrated a coherent and holistic approach to their services with good externally audited evidence. Their recent re-brand brings the group together with a central services provision that adds real value and includes impressive career development programmes to give all staff members something to truly & lsquo;aspire’ to.

The finalists: Astbury Marsden, Aspire Global Network, Arrows Group

Recruitment Sector Service Provider of the Year

Winner: Brunton Consultancy – the business consultancy service provider

The winning company’s dedication to the quest of improving standards of recruitment practice and going, the extra mile to serve the needs of its customers, is a shining example to us all. Last year they were highly commended and the changes they have made to their business moved them into the winner’s position this year.

Innovator of the Year

Winner: SEC Recruitment – the specialist business intelligence and pharmaceutical recruitment provider

As the first company in recruitment to recognise the opportunity presented by the government Apprenticeship scheme, this company has managed to combine Corporate Social Responsibility with a real bottom line benefit to their organisation. They have led the way in the development of young talent to enhance their own business and the recruitment profession as a whole.

Individual Contribution to APSCo 2010

Unusually this year, APSCo jointly awarded two of its members with this accolade:

Winner: Tara Ricks - Managing Director Randstad Financial & Professional

As the Chairman of the Forum of Professional Recruiters, Tara Ricks made the brave decision to merge the FPR into the then ATSCo to form APSCo.  She has spent the last 3 years on the Executive Committee, one as APSCo Chair, supporting our growth, driving our success and has been hugely instrumental in shaping the APSCo of today.

Winner: Graham Palfery-Smith – Chief Executive

Moving from a trade association focussing solely on technology staffing business to one encompassing the professional business sectors was a huge challenge.  We knew that we needed someone with an excellent & lsquo;little black book’ to educate us in new markets and indeed communicate the APSCo proposition to these new sectors.  For three years Graham Palfery-Smith has been the APSCo & lsquo;Ambassador’ championing our cause across the UK and the globe and we are truly grateful for his great contribution.
