Research by Panaya Inc shows 54% of SAP specialists this year have reported they have taken on more responsibilities in the last 12 months.

Paul Winchester, managing director of Greythorn said: “SAP is currently the place to be for IT professionals who have the time and talent to develop an expertise in the product. Given the cost and complexity of most SAP systems, the sector has generally attracted senior professionals who command higher salaries than are generally seen in other disciplines.

“This year salaries have increased sharply. The rise of SAP has been driven primarily by the increasing desire of large companies to explore the potential of cloud software. SAP has this year invested particularly heavily in its capacity to offer a cloud-based service, completing its takeover of SuccessFactors this month. The integration of new cloud based services has become a key task for SAP professionals this year, adding to the workload on departments which because of economic concerns have been relatively tentative about hiring, preferring to offer higher salaries rather than expanding departments”.
