Timothy James Consulting win third consecutive ranking in The Sunday Times Virgin Fast Track 100

Timothy James Consulting have been ranked 66th in the Sunday Times Virgin Fast Track 100 for2011. This third consecutive ranking sees the firm secure their position as one of the fastest growing private recruitment agencies throughout 2009, 2010 and now 2011. The Sunday Times Virgin Fast Track 100 details Britain’s 100 fastest growing private companies based on sales growth over 3 years. This award reiterates the pace at which the Bristol firm have continued to expand throughout 2011, when the headcount of the London office doubled and the third office opened for business in Manchester.

The Fast Track 100 reflects the changing face of the British economy and has shone an early spotlight on many businesses and founders who would go on to become household names. It has also proved that, even in recession, well executed branded businesses will grow.

Timothy James Consulting provides an apt example of this. Launched in 2003 in Bristol by Christopher James O’Connell, Timothy James Consulting has focussed on providing a quality senior appointments recruitment service within change management, project management, ICT, Marketing, E-Commerce, Human Resources, Procurement and Finance. The firm quickly established itself as a leading recruitment partner in these areas, working with public and private sector clients such as Lloyds Banking Group, Superdrug, Aviva and over 70% of all the NHS Trusts and Local Government Authorities.

Appearing in the 2009, 2010 and 2011 league tables for Sunday Times Virgin Fast Track 100 means that Timothy James Consulting has had to demonstrate outstanding growth in a time of private sector and more unusually, public sector downturn. By innovating and continuing to improve their offering, Timothy James Consulting has managed to defy the wider industry trend and grow by over 70% since 2010. O’Connell has attributed this success to his employees:

“Consultants who work here exude passion and embody Timothy James Consulting the brand and all our values – they Consult, Engage and Deliver the best solutions for clients and candidates alike. They are well-read, experienced and seek to deliver a true & lsquo;consultative’ approach – it is never & lsquo;just a job’ or & lsquo;just a candidate’. By internally expanding upon our work hard play hard wealth creation culture, employees are in the fortuitous position to maximise on this, bringing a sense of loyalty and commitment to the business not normally associated with recruitment. In an industry where the attrition rate lies at over 50% we are proud to say ours is a significantly lower 17%, highlighting our ability to retain internal talent. If consultants are well-engaged, rewarded and praised within the business, company growth in terms of headcount and profit is sure to follow.”

In 2011, the firm received outside investment from James Caan’s private equity company, Hamilton Bradshaw. Being backed by such a valuable partner will allow the business to achieve its ambitious growth plans globally. The launch of Manchester this year has proved that Timothy James Consulting is a scalable business and O’Connell is keen to replicate this success overseas by utilising the experience brought on board by Hamilton Bradshaw, a recruitment heavyweight:

“I intend to hire further key experienced individuals. We are looking at potentially opening offices elsewhere in Europe, Singapore and Sydney in the future. Our newly implemented training and development programme will be applied from board level right through to the sales team. This investment also provides a massive opportunity for our existing sales team to enhance and develop. Our fast growth environment and new offices foster great career opportunities for all colleagues.”

The Sunday Times Virgin Fast track 100 award acts as a clear indicator of Timothy James Consulting’s continued growth and success and demonstrates to consultants that their hard work and talent is valuable and recognised. There is a strong culture of reward within the company as well as a marketing leading commission structure, the firm also offers trips around the world, monthly lunch ups at Michelin starred restaurants, share options and individual awards for high achievers. This rapid growth rate has also provided the company with the collateral to get more involved in charitable endeavours – current projects include working together with Guys and St Thomas’ Hospital in their Tommy’s Baby Charity Appeal and also working one-on-one with a local Bristol charity, Crisis Centre Ministries.

O’ Connell says “We are always looking for a chance to give something back, both internally to our employees and to the wider community. It is a great accolade for all employees that our efforts are being recognised through industry awards – provides a perfect motivator to spur us on to hit four years in a row!”
