Towngate Personnel chief hails tourism cash injection

Bournemouth-based hospitality industry recruitment specialists Towngate Personnel are welcoming the recent government announcement that it is to spend an extra &pound27 million promoting British tourism.

The cash injection will assist the national tourism agency VisitBritain in its bid to attract 4.6 million visitors to these shores and create almost 60,000 new jobs over the next four years

Hailing Culture Secretary Jeremy Hunt's announcement, Towngate Personnel managing director Richard Goles said: “This is great news for the whole industry, but especially those ?businesses operating in the hospitality sector which will be ready to ?accommodate, feed and entertain the extra tourists.”

The government announcement comes on the eve of a potential huge boost for British tourism. 2012 will see a mass influx of visitors, not only for the Olympic Games in London, but also the Paralympics and the Queen's  Diamond Jubilee. Goles insists that Britain's hospitality  industry must be well prepared for not only 2012 , but also the ensuing years.

“The UK's hospitality providers must plan staffing levels early and carefully if they are to maximise the benefits 2012 can bring,” he said.

“We will be the focus of the world's eye and have the opportunity to not only create the extra 60,000 new jobs forecast within the hospitality sectors but also to sustain the long term economic growth through increasing inbound tourism for a number of years to come.

“This kind of opportunity does not come very often.”

Goles added: “Towngate has one of the largest databases of qualified specialist candidates in the country together with a great track record for matching those candidates to client’s requirements accurately, both in permanent and temporary posts. We expect, and are prepared for an increased demand for staff next year’s events but in our experience normally this is quite last minute.”

The &pound27 million cash injection, announced by the government builds on the &pound100 million GREAT campaign.

“This additional funding means we will be able to run the largest ?tourism marketing campaign in our history," said VisitBritain chief ?executive Sandie Daw.

“We will be taking the GREAT brand into some of the most dynamic, ?fastest growing and economically important cities across the world to ?encourage a greater number of people to come and experience the very ?best of what Britain has to offer.”
