Almost Four in Five UK Employers Believe Their Staff Are Too Economically Edgy To Move

Research results from online recruitment specialist Staffbay.com have revealed that 77% of UK employers think that their employees are so worried about the economic climate they will stay-put in their jobs.

Only one in ten (11.4%) survey respondents believe that the current crisis is not resulting in their staff & lsquo;sitting tight’, with the remainder being unsure as to how their employees’ attitudes are being affected.

Staffbay.com founder Tony Wilmot comments: “We certainly didn’t expect such strongly weighted results when we commissioned the research, but it’s very interesting to note that a similar survey we undertook amongst employees found that 73% of staff felt insecure in their jobs – seemingly confirming the employers’ view that there is a general trepidation about moving at the moment. It will be fascinating to see if the businesses that think staff are too worried about the job market to look elsewhere follow their instincts and cut back on employee retention strategies in the coming months.”

Despite the apparent lack of will amongst those currently employed to leave their positions, a 271% increase in jobs posted on Staffbay.com in Q4 of 2011 has led to speculation that there may be economic green shoots in the UK, as Tony continues: “It stands to reason that if people aren’t leaving their jobs and there are more postings appearing, additional positions must be being created.

“That’s great news for us in the recruitment industry, and great news for the country as a whole.”
