The 'Cyclescheme Commuter Challenge' at Bike Bath 2012

The 'Cyclescheme Commuter Challenge' at Bike Bath 2012

Bath-based company Cyclescheme the  UK's No.1 provider of bikes for the Government-backed Cycle to Work scheme, has laid down a commuter challenge and is inviting people to take part in the 30 mile cycle route of 'Bike Bath 2012'.

Cyclescheme is supporting the inaugural Bike Bath cycling event with sponsorship of the 30 mile route - officially entitled The Cyclescheme Commuter Challenge.  This 30 mile ride aims to encourage current and future cycling commuters to see if they can cover a longer distance than their normal daily commute to work, and also to bring awareness to cycle commuting in general as a healthy and cost effective alternative to travelling to work.

Bike Bath is a major new cycling event which will take place over the weekend of Friday 22nd - 24th June 2012 in and around Bath. Organised by Breathingspace Live and Aquaterra Leisure, the event promises something for everyone including some fun cycling activities as well as top-level racing.

Over the weekend riders will have the chance to complete marked routes out of the city covering distances of 30, 60 and 100 miles, the event offers serious enthusiastic cyclists a sporting challenge while the 30 mile route allows those riders who for example cycle shorter distances to work or have not been on a bike for some time to have a go.

Daniel Gillborn Head of Commercial Operations for Cyclescheme says 'In sponsoring the 30 mile route Cyclescheme aims to attract current and new cycling commuters.  Our simple message is train for the event by commuting to work, enjoy the event, and keep riding to work after the event.   We are keen to encourage car commuters to switch to cycling, and encourage employees that cycling 30 miles really is possible, enjoyable and cycling to work is a healthy way to get to work.'

Richard Best of Breathingspace Live is pleased at Cyclescheme's early support of the event and says  'The Bike Bath 2012 team are very grateful to Cyclescheme, one of Bath's great business success stories for their support.  We hope other regional businesses will follow their lead and enter company teams with members taking part across all the distances thereby involving all, not just the super fit.'

As part of the event, plans are developing to hold a series of races around Victoria Park on the Saturday evening which will follow the successful Wednesday evening series held in May this year which was part of the build up to Sky Ride in the city.  These races were promoted by the local cycling clubs.

Aquaterra, which runs the Bath Sports and Leisure centre, will be fully integrated into the delivery of the event and will be launching a "Get Fit for Bike Bath 2012" programme from January to help cyclists improve their fitness for their chosen distance.

Those interested in the event will be able to follow the development of Bike Bath 2012 on their website, Facebook page and through twitter and regular bi-monthly newsletters.
