Welsh Grads Surpass Stats for National Work Experience Success

Welsh Grads Surpass Stats for National Work Experience Success

Almost two thirds of recent Welsh graduates are securing employment at the company where they have completed work experience placements according to the ESF funded graduate recruitment scheme GO Wales.

The latest figures for GO Wales have surpassed the national statistics, which state that only a third of graduates secure a job after work experience.

The report from High Fliers Research, entitled 'The Graduate Market in 2012,' also highlights that an average of 50 applicants chase every graduate job available at the UKs top graduate employers.

GO Wales are urging Welsh graduates to consider the career opportunities that small businesses in Wales can offer and to make the most of the paid work placements available especially in Mid and North Wales where new placements are advertised each week.

Marketing Coordinator for GO Wales, Crystal Evans said: "We're extremely pleased with our success rate of helping graduates secure employment within the companies where they undertake work experience."

"What we want to do now, is to encourage graduates in other areas of the country to make the most of the vacancies available on their doorsteps, with a real emphasis on the new opportunities coming up in Mid and North Wales"

added Crystal.

Recent graduate, Liz Prince, undertook her work placement with Snowdonia Tourist Services as a Photographer and Virtual Tour Organiser. Liz was offered a job with the company after completing 10 weeks of paid work experience, via the GO Wales scheme.

"When I left university, I thought I'd struggle to find work in North Wales, with London being my only option of employment."

"I was thrilled to find this work placement opportunity that has now led to employment in Snowdonia. It proves that there are jobs out there for graduates and in areas like North Wales where people don't expect to find them," added Liz.

With the graduate recruitment market becoming more competitive, GO Wales offer university leavers paid work-placements, training courses and a database of job opportunities to make the best start to their careers in Wales.
