CBI COMMENTS ON LATEST IMMIGRATION FIGURES

CBI COMMENTS ON LATEST IMMIGRATION FIGURES

The CBI today commented on latest figures from the Home Office's Migration Advisory Committee (MAC) for the Tier 2 limit on immigration and other policies, including intra-company transfers.

Neil Carberry, CBI Director for Employment & Skills policy, said:

“It’s good that the MAC has said the cap on skilled migrant workers should stay at its current level for the coming year. A cut would only damage the UK’s attractiveness as a place to invest and do business and there is little evidence of skilled migrant workers undercutting the labour market.

On intra-company transfers (ICTs), Mr Carberry said:

“Intra-company transfers enable businesses to move their own staff to the UK for a limited period of time to fulfil a particular need, and they underpin a lot of investment in the UK. It is good news that the MAC did not recommend changes to ICTs. But the suggestion in the report that further limiting the numbers in the business part of the system would require such a reduction is a significant concern, and the Government should not make any changes to this route.”
