CBI RESPONDS TO WILSON REVIEW OF BUSINESS-UNIVERSITY COLLABORATION

The CBI today responded to Sir Tim Wilson’s review of business-university collaboration.

Tim Bradshaw, CBI Head of Innovation & Enterprise, said:

“This review rightly recognises that expanding business-university collaboration should be a core part of the UK’s strategy for growth.

“Britain already has a world-leading reputation in Higher Education and this report is right to highlight that business-university interaction is crucial to the development of skills and knowledge for employment.

“We particularly welcome recommendations for encouraging business-relevant courses with a low student fee for sandwich years, the introduction of accreditation schemes and the development of a central resource to share best practice on collaboration. Many CBI business and university members already work together and have valuable insights to share on what makes for effective collaborations.

"We also support recommendations on strengthening the Knowledge Transfer Partnership Scheme and the reintroduction of innovation vouchers to help encourage wider links with small and medium-sized businesses.”
