Comment from Pulse Umbrella on the latest REC and KPMG Report on Jobs

Chris Futcher, CEO of Pulse Umbrella, comments on the latest REC and KPMG Report on Jobs which was published today:

“Today's report from REC and KPMG shows an improving picture overall, caused largely by a slightly strengthened position across permanent appointments. There is also good news that although some sectors are down slightly the construction and engineering sectors, largely thought of as key economic indicators, were the most sought-after areas. This may signal a more positive 2012 for the economy as whole than previously predicted.

“Although temporary billings were down slightly there was not a significant decline, and the report showed that the implementation of AWR in October has had no significant impact on hirers utilising a temporary workforce. This is excellent news for the recruitment, contracting and temporary workforce support industries and is largely testament to the hard work that recruiters and payroll providers undertook ahead of October 1st to ensure a successful implementation, and that the necessary support and compliance processes were available across the supply chain.

“Career contractors however will be watching carefully as the upward trend in permanent appointments across sectors such as IT, Engineering and Construction may be a worrying signal if the swing continues or becomes any more significant.”
