Expectations! announces Temporary of the Year 2011
Expectations! announces & lsquo;Temporary of the Year 2011’
Cheltenham recruitment agency, Expectations! Recruitment Services has surprised one of its dedicated team of temporaries with the title & lsquo;Temporary of the Year 2011’.
Isobel Edwards was surprised by her employers and Expectations! with a certificate, a bunch of flowers and an engraved silver compact, presented by Abi Howell, Manager at Expectations! for her sheer determination, despite obstacles in her way.
Isobel , who is now a permanent member of staff at Severn Vale Housing Society (SVHS), was unaware of the nomination submitted secretly by SVHS to Expectations!, so winning the award came even more of a surprise, as she commented, “ I am absolutely over the moon to win this award which came as quite a shock! The team at Expectations! Recruitment Services have been fantastic and I would like to thank them and Severn Vale Housing Association for considering me for this award and choosing me as this year’s winner.”
The award celebrates the year-round hard work and dedication of the team of temporaries from Expectations! Recruitment Services. Each month, one candidate is given the title ’Temporary of the Month’. At the end of the year, the employer for each winner is then invited to submit a nomination for & lsquo;Temporary of the Year’, to acknowledge the excellent work of one outstanding individual in particular.
Nominations for the awards closed on January 20th 2012 and after a difficult judging process, the panel of judges were unanimous in their decision.
Isobel joined Severn Vale Housing Society as a temporary member of staff on an initial 6 month contract in July 2010 to conduct customer focus groups at a number of community events over the summer.
She was unable to drive at the time, but undeterred by the travel distance from Gloucester to Tewkesbury, Isobel hopped on her bike, rode it to the station and then carried it onto the train. Later, when Isobel was expecting her first baby, Severn Vale Housing Society thought the journey might be too much, but at 7 months pregnant Isobel was seen wobbling on her bike in the snow and ice(!), not once complaining or turning up late.
Now Isobel is the proud mother of Penny, she has learnt to drive, got a car, successfully secured a permanent role at Severn Vale Housing Society and every week is learning new skills and using them.
Kate Calladene from Severn Vale Housing Society is full of praise for Isabel receiving the award as she commented, “It’s been fantastic to see how far Isobel has come since her first days temping through Expectations! This quiet but kind and committed temporary has blossomed into a confident and proficient employee. We feel very lucky to have her on the team.”
Severn Vale Housing Society approached Expectations! Recruitment Services looking for impressive candidates to assist in a new community involvement scheme. As a new project for SVHS, Abi from Expectations! spent a substantial amount of time with Sarah Clements, HR Manager at SVHS taking a detailed brief to ensure the correct candidate was appointed.
Commenting on the relationship with Expectations!, Sarah said, “We quickly built a rapport with the team at Expectations! and trusted the judgment of Abi in choosing three impressive applicants for us to interview. Choosing Isobel was a no-brainer from our point of view, she excelled during the tough interview process and we have now been able to offer her a permanent position since November 2011.”
The title of & lsquo;Temporary of the Year’ has been handed over from last year’s winner Richard Arnold, who has also subsequently been offered a permanent role with Tewkesbury Borough Council.
Expectations! Recruitment Services has presented this award for the past 2 years to reward its hardest working temporaries as it continues to encourage employment in Gloucestershire.
Commenting on what makes a temporary stand out from the crowd, Abi Howell, Manager at Expectations! said, “A great temporary is someone who has a & lsquo;can do’ attitude, who shows willingness, reliability, flexibility and readiness to respond to an urgent assignment. It is someone who constantly gets great feedback from clients with regards to the work they have carried out and how they have conducted themselves whilst working for them. All in all it is someone who takes pride in what they do, who represents Expectations! to the highest standard and who goes that extra mile to do a good job.”
Victoria Maddock, Director at Expectations! said, “The criteria used to judge the “Temporary of the Year” included the content of the nomination from the Client, assessments and feedback forms, and the thoughts and feelings of the Consultants that the temporaries work with.”
