REC Professional Standards Committee hands out two year reprimand to member

The REC has issued a public reprimand to IT Talent Solutions (ITTS) following an investigation and hearing which found the agency to have seriously breached the REC’s Code of Professional Practice.

The investigation followed three different complaints into infringements of the Code. Two were in relation to consultants from ITTS pretending to be candidates and submitting fake CVs to other agencies and job sites in order to gain client information and then contacting those clients. One was as a direct result of continued unsolicited contact despite requests for this to stop.

Following a hearing by the REC’s Professional Standards Committee (PSC), it was decided to:

Issue a formal reprimand to IT Talent Solutions which will remain on file for two years from the date of notification. This means if further complaints about the agency are received by the REC during this time, the original complaints will also be taken into account

An REC inspection of one site of ITTS will take place every six months until the end date of the reprimand.

Commenting on the decision, Rebekah Handford FIRP, who chaired the REC’s Standards Committee that heard this case said “ITTS have breached the REC’s Code of Professional Practice on at least three occasions. We have investigated these matters fully and the conclusion of the Professional Standards Committee was that they should be reprimanded for two years and inspected every six months because of the seriousness of the breaches.”

Chris Kenny, the new chair of the Professional Standards Committee said: “We are committed to stamping out bad practice such as faking CVs and the REC will take action against any members who show disregard for our Code and the law.

“We have taken into account  & lsquo;IT Talent Solutions’ assurances that they have put in new systems, trained their staff, modified their policies and removed the offending members of staff. However, we are keen to keep an eye on their progress.

“ITTS did co-operate with our investigation, submitted to inspection of their offices and attended our Standards committee twice to answer our questions. This public reprimand will remain on file for two years. There is a very fair, consistent and robust process for handling compliance issues such as this, always with the ultimate objective of ensuring membership compliance and thereby improving industry standards will continue to have a zero tolerance approach in place to such breaches of our Code. We will also make other interested parties fully aware of our PSC findings on IT Talent Solutions.”
