100,000 students register for jobs at London 2012 Games

With less than 150 days to go to the London 2012 Games, the number of students who have registered for a summer job at the Games through http://summerjobs.jobsforthegames.co.uk/has now topped 100,000.

Run by Adecco, the official recruitment services provider of the Olympic and Paralympic Games, the Summer Job of a Lifetime site is a key recruitment channel for London 2012’s contractors. It offers a range of opportunities for students to work at the Games and gain valuable work experience.

Students who register on the site are alerted as relevant jobs become available, placing them in pole position to land the summer job of a lifetime. Roles include retail, catering, administration, hospitality, tourism, leisure and customer service.

Josh Vassallo, 18, who is studying for an Extended Diploma in Uniformed Public Services at South Essex College and found a job through the site said: “I am so excited about working at the London 2012 Olympics. The last few weeks have been really exciting. I have gained new qualifications and the skills I now have will help me so much when I enter the jobs market. Working with the team at the Olympics will be a fantastic opportunity to build on my skills and gain valuable experience that will help me in my future career”.

Steve Girdler, Director of 2012 Partnership, Adecco Group, said, “The response to the Summer Job of a Lifetime site has been overwhelming, and we are delighted to see so many people wanting to have a direct influence on the success of the Games.

He added: “Our recent Unlocking Britain’s Potential research showed the importance of being able to demonstrate work experience when trying to get onto the career ladder. The experience that can be gained from working at a global event like this is invaluable, and through the Summer Jobs site we hope to give as many people as possible the chance to apply.”

Paul Deighton, Chief Executive of LOCOG said: “The London 2012 Summer Job of a Lifetime website is a fantastic opportunity for students to play their part in helping put on the world’s greatest sporting events whilst at the same time giving their CVs a significant boost. London 2012’s contractors will have a wide range of jobs available and I’m thrilled that thousands of students will get the chance to be involved with London 2012.”

Anyone still hoping to join the thousands of people needed to help deliver the London 2012 Games can register at http://summerjobs.jobsforthegames.co.uk/. Securing a summer job at the London 2012 Games is a once in a lifetime opportunity, and with London 2012 contractor organisations already starting to recruit, and some huge interest from jobseekers, students are urged to sign-up as soon as they can.
