2LS wins national award for internships

Recruitment software specialist 2LS has received a national award for its internship scheme from the National Council for Work Experience (NCWE). These annual awards recognise organisations which offer outstanding placement opportunities.

2LS won the Highly Commended Award in the Best Micro Enterprise category. It has been running a 12-week intern scheme for the last three years and this year its student, Akshay Koregaonkar who is currently studying at Reading University, successfully developed a mobile version of 2LS’s GRIP recruitment software. The mobile application has now been launched and is in use by a number of recruitment firms.

Neil Thompson, Managing Director at 2LS, commented: "It's tremendous that the NCWE has recognised that a micro-business can provide an excellent internship for students. We believe an internship should comprise a challenging and feasible project for the student which benefits both them and the company – and this was successfully achieved with Akshay. And having a small, close-knit team enabled him to become a real part of the company, to see how all areas of the business work, and to get the most out of the experience."

Akshay Koregaonkar commented: “My internship offered an extraordinary opportunity to gain marketable skills in mobile applications for BlackBerry, Android and iPhone. These technologies and skills will be critical and invaluable in my future career.”

The NCWE Awards recognise businesses from all sectors and sizes that provide exceptional student and graduate internships. There was a record number of entries this year, with around 200 organisations across the UK competing for a total of 28 awards. The judging panel represented the full internship process through a number of senior professionals, including specialists from Which? and Regent’s College.
