CBI COMMENTS ON EC REPORT ON WOMEN ON BOARDS

CBI COMMENTS ON EC REPORT ON WOMEN ON BOARDS

The CBI today (Monday), commented on the European Commission’s report on women on boards, called Women in economic decision-making in the EU: Progress report.

Neil Carberry, CBI Director for Employment, said:

“It is good that the Commission recognises recent progress in the UK, where businesses have been at the vanguard of a culture-change to drive diversity in the boardroom.

“This report rightly highlights that the rate of progress must be quickened across Europe. It is essential that member states are helped to do this without resorting to the counter-productive tokenism of quotas. We welcome the fact that today's report explores the benefits of alternative approaches.

“The UK Government must continue to make clear its opposition to quotas and promote the voluntary approach that is starting to bear fruit, as businesses set targets and take actions to improve the flow of female leaders to the top.”
