Towers Watson hires Director of Change Management in the UK

Towers Watson, a leading global professional services company, has appointed Phil Merrell to lead its Change Management practice in the UK. Merrell’s role is to manage and grow the company’s Change Management consultancy practice to ensure Towers Watson’s clients achieve changes that deliver sustained success. He will focus on M&A, business transformation and performance improvement.

Merrell has over 25 years industry experience, starting at the NHS as an HR Manager before moving to the BBC where he rose to Head of Corporate Transition. Merrell now joins Towers Watson from Penna where he was Director of Consulting Services, responsible for business development and the delivery of strategic consulting programmes to clients.

Merrell said: “The turbulent business environment and the opportunities and challenges faced by companies at the moment means they have to constantly raise their game in order to remain competitive and maintain employee motivation. This places effective change management right at the heart of business success. Change is all about people and there is a direct correlation between businesses that manage the people aspects of change well and their propensity to consistently financially outperform their peers. Change works where transition is well planned, capabilities are up to the mark and benefits are fully realised. With these factors in place change sticks and any business facing change now or in future needs to ensure all these areas are covered.

“I am delighted to be joining Towers Watson at such an exciting time for the Communications and Change Management team. The company’s reputation for innovation and quality is second to none and I look forward to the interesting challenges ahead.”
