British and Finnish recruitment companies forge alliance  in advance of UK nuclear new build

Two major forces in energy sector resource management, NRL Group Ltd of Cumbria and Enersense International of Finland, have formed the alliance Enerel, with the aim of providing an unparalleled service to the UK’s nuclear new build programme, due to begin later this year.

NRL Group Ltd is primarily a recruitment business which also offers management, logistics, training and other support services to UK industry, especially the power generation sector. Established in Cumbria in 1983, the &pound72m turnover company has a long pedigree within the nuclear industry.

Enersense International has had a significant presence at the Olkiluoto nuclear construction site in Western Finland since 2004 and sources skills and resources from across Europe. Enersense’s advanced HR software and consultancy services have helped the company become a highly regarded company in Scandinavia and beyond with over &pound9m of revenue generated from new-build projects in the last financial year.

The two companies formalised the arrangement last year and have now moved into new shared premises in London thus consolidating the Enerel alliance.

Phil Jennings, director of NRL Ltd, who is based in Egremont, Cumbria, says: “The alliance, known as Enerel, will draw on the considerable experience and resources of both partner companies to offer a comprehensive service to nuclear new build. We believe our joint knowledge and expertise surpasses that of any other personnel supply and management enterprise operating in the UK.”

David Rail, managing director of Enersense UK Limited, who is based in the new London office in Kensington Olympia, says: “This alliance delivers a unique resource management company that’s capable of drawing on the full array of specialisms across the entire spectrum of the new-build environment to deliver fresh ideas, as well as strategic and pragmatic insights into complex HR issues. Enerel is a truly international offering that mirrors corporate activity across the supply chain.”

This industry competence is already assisting a number of clients in understanding their overall resource requirements, as well as the true costs of such activities once the UK’s new-build programme gets underway. Initial work is also being undertaken to enable clients to ramp up their new nuclear-focused teams, so that third generation new-build expertise is at the heart of their implementation programmes.

The programme will incorporate the build of at least eight new power stations, with ground work already begun at Hinkley Point C in Somerset. EDF plans to make its final investment decision by the end of 2012 with major civils work expected to commence in the first half of 2013.
