NHS Information Management & Technology (IM&T) recruiter max20 has recorded double the number of placements for Q1 in comparison to last year’s figures.
The specialist recruitment business has confirmed almost 100 IT contractors being placed in English and Welsh based hospital trusts and other health organisations within the NHS.
The figures do not include extensions to contracts, which remain healthy at a renewal rate of around 80%.
Don Tomlinson managing director of max20 comments: “The NHS has a strong demand for highly skilled professionals, it is certainly not second in its requirements for top notch talent when compared to the commercial world.
The NHS has in the past wanted IM&T contractors that have experience within the organisation, but that is not always the case today. Opportunities for talented professionals are certainly there. In fact we have just been tasked with finding a Business Development Manager from the commercial sector to support the growth in demand from one of our Health Informatics Services”
Explaining the rise in demand: “NHS trusts are being tasked with creating more effective and efficient work practices, meeting those aims through IM&T ensures that good contractors are in demand. I also believe for max20 our knowledge of the NHS as our only client, albeit made up of many bodies, is helping us secure more work.”
Tomlinson points out that finding professionals from certain disciplines, such as business intelligence and analytical roles, is still challenging.
Tomlinson, who has headed max20 for over 10 years, believes that the NHS has much to offer for contractors: “The NHS offers a supportive culture, with the type of flexibility contractors appreciate. Moreover many contractors like the fact that they are contributing something worthwhile to the community.”
max20, which prides itself on being the only dedicated contractor recruitment business solely for the IM&T in the NHS, has recruited two new members of staff to handle new assignments.
max20 handles IT contractor work for over 150 NHS organisations including Health Informatics Services, NHS Foundation Trusts, Community and Mental Health Trusts and a growing number of specialist collaborative services.
