Russia Holds 9th Place in the World in Demand for Staff

Despite the decrease in the number of companies hiring managerial staff in Russia, our country remains in the top-10 world leaders in terms of recruitment activity. These results were obtained during the Global Hiring and Firing Trends survey held by Antal Russia and Antal International.

The number of companies hiring or are planning to hire people into middle and senior management positions has decreased slightly in comparison with the fourth quarter of 2011. In March 2012, 62% of companies opened vacancies for managerial staff and 60% of companies planned to do so this year. However a small increase in the number of companies letting managerial staff go has been observed (33% vs. 30% in November last year).

The highest demand for managers can be seen in the pharmaceutical and FMCG sectors, and in IT/telecommunications companies.

The leaders on the & lsquo;in-demand’ list are traditionally sales and marketing professionals (57% of companies plan to hire them in the second quarter of 2012), specialists in supply chain management and production staff (20%), accountants and administrative staff (19% and 16%).

The average number of companies opening positions for managers across the world has remained almost stable from the previous period at 55%.

"Despite the fact that the results are less optimistic than the results of previous periods, I would not make negative predictions. A small decline in the level of recruitment activity is to my mind can be explained by the fact that Western companies in the wake of instability in the economy have reduced their recruitment rates, including those in the Russian offices. Additionally, companies are increasingly paying attention to improving the effectiveness and efficiency of the staff, which in turn has an impact on the market situation, "- says Michael Germershausen, Managing Director at Antal Russia.
