GCS Recruitment Specialists was recently named Student Employer of the Year
GCS Recruitment Specialists was recently named Student Employer of the Year by the University of Reading. The awards are governed by the National Association of Student Employment Services and have been announced at institutional level. GCS will now be taken into consideration for the regional and national NASES awards.
“Part of our ever-evolving CSR commitment is to ensure we are giving back to the next generation” says company founder Chris Bartlett. “As we emerge from the recession, undergraduates are concerned that their studies may end with them having a qualification but no job. GCS is determined to offer more than merely employment opportunities for students looking to make a career within recruitment. We reason that providing as many students as possible with guidance and education about the sector will raise awareness of the realities of recruitment, as well as presenting an often-overlooked career option to soon-to-be graduates.”
Bartlettis true to his word, having recently undertaken a tour of UK Universities to deliver a free seminar, explaining what can be achieved through a career in the recruitment industry – as well as the expectations therein. The tour, which included stops at Kent, Surrey, Hertfordshire and several London-based institutes, met with high praise from attendees and will likely see a follow-up tour towards the end of 2012 which will encompass the Midlands and Northern counties.
The symbiosis between the University of Reading and GCS dates back to Chris’ first lecture in 2008, a practice that has since become an annual event where he spends two hours with c.80 students as part of the Strategic Human ResourceManagement module.
Additionally, Chris assisted the Association of Professional Staffing Companies, in conjunction with Reading University and the Henley Business School, to create the course specifications for the UK’s first recruitment-centric MBA course. He has also been filmed in the GCS offices for teaching notes which are downloadable for Universities and students to access.
A number of Reading University graduates have gone on to careers within GCS, including Managing Director, David Bloxham, and most recently, Victoria Tomalin, who joined GCS after attending one of Chris’ lectures. As well as their collective passion for GCS, David and Victoria reflect Chris’ strong belief in CSR, having recently joined him in running the Virgin London Marathon for charity.
