HELPING TACKLE YOUTH UNEMPLOYMENT WITH NEW ONLINE INITIATIVE

Employers and recruitment agencies are being asked to support a new initiative aimed at helping young job seekers improve their interview skills, build confidence and find work.

With youth unemployment in the UK standing at over 1m and thousands more young people leaving school or college in the coming months, the outlook for many is extremely gloomy. A new initiative called Interview Club www.interviewclub.co.uk has launched this week to help support young people new to the job market and those still struggling to find work.

Interview Club will enable young people to do practice job interviews online using their webcam. The interviews will all be job specific with questions set by leading UK employers and recruitment agencies. The objective is to allow young people an opportunity to see what type of questions they can expect to be asked and get a better idea of what employers are looking for.

As well as example job interviews, interview tips and career advice, Interview Club is also looking to create an extensive directory of employers and recruitment agencies that offer career opportunities for young people. In time it is hoped the site will become a valuable resource for both young people looking for work, and employers looking to attract new school leavers and graduates.

The site is completely free for job seekers. The site will be funded by employers and recruitment agencies being asked to pay a nominal annual fee to register their details on the site’s employer directory.

Employers and recruitment agencies interested in helping further support the site are being asked to provide example questions and give online feedback to candidates. In exchange, they will be able to access the site’s database of candidate video interviews, giving them access to what is expected to be a huge potential talent pool of highly educated and motivated young people.

The initiative is supported by The Recruitment Society and Tazio, the digital interview platform, which is providing the technology.
