Leadership Consulting – New Horizons for Executive Search Consultants

The Association of Executive Search Consultants Acknowledges the Growth of Leadership Consulting as a Complement to Retained Executive Search Services

The worldwide Association of Executive Search Consultants (AESC) has formally announced the integration of leadership consulting services into the search industry’s scope of professional service offerings. The AESC’s Code of Ethics, Professional Practice Guidelines, as well as its tagline has been adapted to reflect this change. This adaptation acknowledges the growth in leadership consulting services offered by AESC member executive search firms and the expanded opportunity in client relationship management presented by this form of senior consulting.

AESC President, Peter Felix, commented: “The decision to expand the AESC remit was made to recognize what was already happening and to put a stake in the ground for this development in the role of executive search consulting. It was considered that institutional backing by the AESC would be helpful to those of our members who were already practicing, or considering offering, leadership consulting and it would make clear to the client community that this was a considered and rational development. The metamorphosis had been occurring over a number of years, and indeed is still far from complete.”

Felix continued: “Given the major challenges which client organizations face in resolving their talent management needs, it is appropriate for the executive search profession to broaden its client support and to help with a range of related issues such as talent strategy, succession planning, team assessment, executive coaching and board advisory work. I believe that for many of our member firms offering these services will enrich and deepen their client relationships and make additional contribution at the most senior levels of the organization.”

The transition began following approval in November last year by the AESC’s Regional Councils and International Board and is being implemented throughout 2012 across a variety of AESC publications. The AESC tagline now reads: “The global association for retained executive search and leadership consulting firms”.
