Macildowie Chairman is Honoured With OBE

Ed Vernon, chairman of East Midlands recruitment specialist Macildowie, has been recognised in the Queen’s Birthday Honours List, with an OBE.

Belfast-based Vernon has been awarded the honour in recognition of Services to Economic Development.
Back in 2004, Ed and his partners sold their leading Irish technology services and solutions business, B.I.C Systems, to BT Group for &pound17 million. They then went onto establish a successful holding company called Synetecs, which acquired Macildowie in 2007.

Ed’s influence now stretches across various economic sectors. He has just completed six years on the board of Invest Northern Ireland, as chairman of INI’s International subcommittee and is a strategic advisor to BT Ireland. Ed is also a trustee of the Foundation Board of Queens University and a member of the IoD Northern Ireland committee.

The Northern Ireland Executive approached Ed in 2007 to become Head of the Capital Realisations Taskforce, to review the potential for public sector land, property and operating assets for disposal or reuse.
He also has a number of business awards to his credit, including the British Computer Society IT Professional of the Year award in 2002, the Institute of Directors’ award of Excellence in 2005 and inaugural membership of Invest Northern Ireland’s Entrepreneurial Hall of Fame.
The OBE is something Ed feels incredibly proud to be receiving. He said: “I’m very pleased to be honoured in this way. I feel this highlights the importance of the economy, particularly in what has been a period of unprecedented challenge over recent years.”
