Gold Group's Olympic Torch day!

Gold Group's Olympic Torch day!

On a sunny morning in East Grinstead saw a proud moment for Gold Group and company Chairman and co-owner, Richard Leman. At approximately 10:55 he lit his Olympic Torch and commenced on his leg of the Olympic Torch Relay!

Richard was cheered on by crowds lining the streets of East Grinstead, as well as a full complement of Gold Group staff who were adorned in Gold Group embroidered polo shirts and the words & lsquo;Supporting GB Hockey’ – a nod to Richard’s involvement as President of GB Hockey and his Gold medal win at the 1988 Olympics in Seoul with the Great Britain men’s hockey team.

We caught up with Richard after his run and spoke to him about the relay, & lsquo; It was fantastic, what an experience! It was great to see the crowds lining the streets and cheering all the relay runners on. The Olympics are a fantastic event and being involved in the relay is an experience I will always cherish.’

When pressed further about his involvement with the Olympics (as a Director of the British Olympics Association) and his thoughts on its legacy, Richard commented & lsquo; It is undoubted that the Olympics will leave a fantastic legacy. LOCOG have been responsible for the employment of well over 150,000 people. Many of these people were unemployed before they took up roles and thousands of people have picked up work skills and experience they wouldn’t have got elsewhere.’

& lsquo;Aside from this there is also the &pound7 billion spent on Olympic contracts and over a &pound1 billion of high street sales as a direct result of the Games. And finally you have the physical legacy. It has transformed East London and offered numerous fantastic sporting venues that will be around for years to come. These venues will create jobs for a long time and so the legacy will go on for years.

Everyone at Gold Group is exceptionally proud of Richard and his achievements – it’s great to have an Olympic hero in the office!
