All Rhodes lead to boxing tour for North East youngsters

Eight promising young boxers from the North East will be flying out to compete in a special tournament in the sun thanks to the generosity of a Newcastle recruitment company.

Directors Rob Armstrong and David Musgrave from Newcastle based MTrec Recruitment, a multi-million pound business supplying staff to some of the region's largest multi-nationals and established SME's have a keen interest in local grassroots sport and currently sponsor the North East Ability Counts Football League for children of all abilities. When ex professional heavyweight boxer Manny Burgo sent out a sponsorship SOS to local businesses to help fund Rye Hill Amateur Boxing Club's visit to the Greek island of Rhodes, MTrec Recruitment weighed in with a knock out donation of &pound2000 to pay for the youngsters flights.

The boxing club is visiting Rhodes ABC and eight young boxers aged from 15 to 24 will train in the Aegean heat before competing in fights with their Greek counterparts. Amongst the Rye Hill delegation are several national champions including Lawrence Osueke from Cullercoats, the reigning light heavyweight 81KG champion, Alnwick's Cyrus Pattinson, Sunderland boxers Bobby Begg and Warren Cassap and North Shields youngsters Dominic Hatton and Edwin Emmerson.

As well as having Manny's extensive experience to help them on their tour, other seasoned coaches will ensure that the aspiring champions will receive the best possible training and coaching during their week-long stay. The Rye Hill team will be joined by former undefeated Northern Area Welterweight Champion, Paul King and experienced coaches Terry Clark and Phillip Hatton.

MTrec director Rob Armstrong has followed Manny's boxing career for many years and the two have become firm friends. "Both David and I are delighted to be able to help Rye Hill ABC with their travel costs, we enjoy investing in the raw talent of the North East and we are sure that the experience will be good for the youngsters," he said.

Fellow director, David Musgrave agreed. "These lads train hard three nights a week, every week of the year and already some of them are showing signs of becoming a real force in the world of boxing. We wish Manny and his team the very best of luck in Rhodes and look forward to hearing about their victories on Greek soil."

The Rye Hill club travels to Rhodes on Wednesday 19th September and Manny was delighted with the help given by MTrec Recruitment. "The help we've had from MTrec Recruitment has paid for our travel to Rhodes and once we are there, our lads will get the experience of fighting abroad against the best young boxers in Greece," said ex England international Manny. "We are all very grateful for their very kind donation."
