Big Data creates big opportunities for IT pros

The rise of & lsquo;big data’ is creating demand for specialist IT professionals, according to research from CWJobs.co.uk. The findings reveal a sustained need for IT specialists across a number of roles, including data management, analysis and security.

The responses, gathered from CWJobs’ IT jobseeker database found that data specialists in the financial sector have seen the greatest demand. This comes following news from large financial institutions such as Bank of America and JPMorgan Chase, of their plans to use data to communicate promotions with customers in a more targeted way in order to remain competitive.

With companies now relying on technology to manage the majority of operational processes, IBM has estimated that data growth is running at a torrent of 2.5 exabytes per day – with 90% of the total information generated being created in the last two years.

Richard Nott, Website Director, CWJobs explains: “Businesses across a number of sectors are starting to tune in to the advantages of using data to better understand their customers and stakeholders, which in turn enables them to provide a better service. Data however, is meaningless without someone to interpret and manage this is where IT specialists are becoming invaluable and are key to helping companies to deliver growth in a tough climate.”

Respondents (70%) further indicated that the benefits of data and continuing need from companies to have access to it, makes employment in this type role very sustainable.
